Albert Kahn was a French banker and philanthropist born in 1860. He died in 1940 during the Nazi occupation of France. Albert Khan is known for creating “The Archives of the Planet”. The project aimed to build a photographic record of the entire planet. He sent photographers around the world using colour photography (Autochrome plates) and cinematography. Over 22 years the collection grew to thousands of photographs and films from 50 countries thereby creating a unique historical record of these places between 1909 and 1931. His collection is now part of a national museum in Paris. The video is a documentary (in French) by Robin Hunzinger on Albert Khan’s life.
